The Choice

The Choice was written after having a conversation with a good friend about the challenges you face in a relationship. At the same time, we discussed another friend of ours going through a divorce.

He said something simple but profound.

That you have to make a choice to love the one you're with each day.

As that thought stayed with me through the evening, this song was born.

Verse 1:

Ain’t it just like a movie
or something we pulled from a song?
Saw you across the room,
a smile, a stare
a drink, a talk
knew we could go anywhere.

But I ain’t the winner
you think you see in your heart.
Broken and scared
way more sinner than saint
doing all I can to keep this from falling apart.

Chorus:

Then you tell me love’s a choice
one you make every day.
It ain’t easy,
ain’t always pretty
but it helps us find our way.

So with the grace of God
and a little bit of luck
you’ll make the right one today.
Through thick and thin
all I know is I’m happy
you’re the choice I got to make.

Verse 2:

Caused way too many tears
taking down everything that got in my way.
Not knowing how to do anything but hurt
and I hurt a lot,
especially the ones that loved me most.

Keep thinking I ain’t good for you
but knowing doesn’t do any good,
cause I know you’re the only one,
the one who keeps me from the pain.

Chorus:

Then you tell me love’s a choice
one you make every day.
It ain’t easy,
ain’t always pretty
but it helps us find our way.

So with the grace of God
and a little bit of luck
you’ll make the right one today.
Through thick and thin
all I know is I’m happy
you’re the choice I got to make.

Bridge:

Now I know I don’t deserve you
but damned if I’m not gonna try.
I’ll make the choice,
I’ll make it right

Chorus:

Cause you taught me love’s a choice
one I make every day.
It ain’t easy,
ain’t always pretty
but it helps us find our way.

So with the grace of God
and a little bit of luck
I’ll make the right one today.
Through thick and thin
all I know is I’m happy
you’re the choice I got to make.
