Burning Shadows
This was written for my new book, tentatively titled Rise From the Fall.
The book will have at least an album worth of original lyrics, some new, some already on here.
Verse 1:
Can’t remember if I ever felt this way
Being lonely when you're sitting next to me
Not sure if i should fight or cry
Just know this isn't what either of us signed up for
Waiting for yesterday to catch today
It's a losing race
Do we bow out now or fuel this quiet rage
Chorus:
It’s like a bomb went off
And burnt my shadow into the floor
Where you keep walking over it
Stepping on what used to be my heart
Looking over and through me
This isn't a way for love to be
Guess it’s best to know when it’s over
Lifting myself up to pick up what’s left of me
Verse 2:
Moving my arm from around you
You don't try to hold onto it like you used to
And looking down at you
I can tell you're tired of looking into these eyes
I know when it left
That last fight we had, neither saying sorry before we went to bed
The words that time weren't anger
Just truth veiled in what we used to be
Chorus:
It’s like a bomb went off
And burnt my shadow into the floor
Where you keep walking over it
Stepping on what used to be my heart
Looking over and through me
This isn't a way for love to be
Guess it’s best to know when it’s over
Lifting myself up to pick up what’s left of me
Bridge:
I love hard
But you doubt harder
And that's a winless fight
It isn't either of our fault
It's just the way it happened to go
But when lonely is better alone
Its time to let the wreckage go
Find a way to be happy again instead of burning shadows
Chorus:
It’s like a bomb went off
And burnt my shadow into the floor
Where you keep walking over it
Stepping on what used to be my heart
Looking over and through me
This isn't a way for love to be
Guess it’s best to know when it’s over
Lift myself up to pick up what’s left of me
