Hold On Tight

One night, this came to me after I was out spending time with the homeless kids that I work with.

It wasn't about the kids. It came from witnessing an adult couple that was also homeless. Watching what they were doing, not just for money, alcohol, and drugs but while attempting to fill a void that they had.

Verse 1:

I lived in the shadow of darkness
never noticed the wind that’d set me free.
Learned the hard way if I played with disaster
the chance out got twice as far away from me.

So I’d spend my time with strangers
and in the morning they’d always find me gone
not caring I was more empty now than when I was sharing their hell.

And that’s when I found Him singing on the corner
and it was there that I found my peace.
He was in search of this tortured woman
who never thought she’d have a saving grace.
And he sang

Chorus:

Hold on tight, girl.
Don’t let the darkness take you from me,
cause you just might find your way home,
If you’ll just come back to me.

Verse 2:

He found me at the bottom of the bottle
making nothing but a mess of myself.
He asked no questions and gave me all the answers
when he picked me up and laid me in our bed.

I tried asking him for forgiveness
but how can I when I couldn’t find a way to forgive myself.
Who in their right mind could love me
knowing how little I was worth?

And He fell to his knees.
Put His hands in mine,
tears falling like a rain that could wash me clean
and He sang

Chorus:

Hold on tight, boy.
Don’t let the darkness take you from me,
cause you just might find your way home,
If you’ll just come back to me.

Bridge:

So I washed myself in His tears
His love setting me free
knowing I could be forgiven clean
and we sang.

Chorus:

I’ll hold on tight
I won’t let the darkness take you from me
Cause I finally found my way home
and that’s God, you and me.
