What Do You See?

This is another that came from a conversation. This one was with an ex-girlfriend of mine. The evening that we broke up we had a long conversation about what we thought of each other, why we weren't working and what could help us with others in the further. While a difficult moment it was a great conversation and she is a great girl. We are still friends and both remember this conversation as one that showed us a lot about who we are.

What do you see when you look in my eyes?
Is it life, love, liberty, or death?

What do you see when you look to tomorrow?
Is it something that scares you to death?

If life is a pleasure
then why is there pain?
And how do we get on like the rest?

I’ve seen grown men cry out,

and women be strong.
Life takes a turn,
then ends on a song.

What do you see when you look into my heart?

Is there a passion that can be contained?

What do you see when you look into my soul?
Is there a spirit that's strong enough to survive?

What do you see in a child’s smile?
Do you see the innocence pure and true?

What do you see in the midnight sky?
Is it peace and tranquility or emptiness and sorrow?

If life is a pleasure,
then why is there pain?
And how do we get on like the rest?
